An UberEats Bike Delivery Spotted on Highway

Around 12:25pm on May 12, 2020, a 911 call was made to report that an UberEats delivery man was biking on the inbound lane of the Metropolitan Expressway No.4 Shinjuku Route. An Expressway Traffic Police Unit was dispatched, but the cyclist could not be found when they arrived.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, there was no disruption to the traffic or accidents. A short video posted on Twitter shows a cyclist on the highway who appears to carry an UberEats delivery backpack. The expressway is for motor vehicles only and traveling on bikes is prohibited by the Road Traffic Act. “If the cyclist on the video is in fact one of our delivery partners, we will take an appropriate action,” commented Uber.

The number of UberEats users is increasing while staying home is strongly requested by the government amid COVID-19. It is possible that this delivery partner knowingly used the highway.
